About
Akua Two Hawk Maat is a CAMTC-certified massage therapist and Certified Medical Massage Practitioner who founded Nana's African Maroon Spiritual Science and Wellness Center in the California desert. Akua belongs to the Society for Oncology Massage and works with people living with cancer, in treatment, after treatment, or nearing the end of life. Sessions are shaped around comfort, positioning, pressure and pace, with attention to medical devices, past surgery or radiation, and each client's touch tolerance. Akua has also worked with patients in infusion centers during chemotherapy. The center's work draws on Babaylan traditions of the Philippines along with African Maroon and Indigenous medicine, with water at its center. Besides massage, the center offers Hilot bodywork, clinical hypnotherapy and past life regression, postpartum birth work, spiritual baths, temazcalli sessions, steams, sauna and chromotherapy, far infrared and PEMF sessions, and coaching. Appointments take place at the center or, in special circumstances, at home. Most 90-minute sessions are listed at $85, and booking is available online.
