Kristen Shimabukuro, PT, DPT is a physical therapist at JACO Rehab in Honolulu. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences (2015) and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy (2019) from the University of Miami before returning home to O'ahu. She holds Level I and II certification through the Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute and has a particular interest in serving female patients with pelvic floor dysfunction, along with active adults and older adults in the outpatient setting. JACO Rehab's pelvic floor program addresses urinary incontinence, urgency and frequency, incomplete emptying, pelvic pressure and prolapse, painful scars after childbirth or surgery, pain with intercourse, pregnancy-related hip, back and pelvic pain, diastasis recti, return to exercise postpartum, sacroiliac and pubic symphysis pain and tailbone conditions. Treatment may include education, pelvic floor muscle training, relaxation and breathing techniques, soft tissue and joint mobilization, biofeedback and behavior modification. Pelvic visits take place one-on-one in a private room and last about an hour; an internal assessment is offered only if the patient is comfortable, and a third person may be present on request. JACO Rehab also runs a pregnancy seminar series.
