Dr. Kathleen (Katie) Gammelgaard, PT, DPT, is the physical therapist at Ignite Family Chiropractic, Physical Therapy & Lactation in North Peoria, a family practice that combines chiropractic care, pelvic physical therapy and lactation support for families from pregnancy through postpartum. She turned to women's health after her own C-section recovery with a pelvic floor therapist. She earned a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from Penn State University in 2014 and a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Thomas Jefferson University in 2017, and continues training in pelvic floor therapy and women's health, pediatric physical therapy for torticollis and plagiocephaly, and dry needling and cupping. Visits are private and one-on-one. An evaluation reviews history, symptoms and goals and may include assessment of the hips, spine, bony pelvis and pelvic floor muscles, followed by an individualized plan of exercises, stretches and manual therapy. She sees concerns such as urine leakage, pain with intercourse, C-section shelf, low back and hip pain, core weakness, prolapse and endometriosis. As a cranial PT she also works with babies on flat spots, head-shape irregularities, torticollis and feeding difficulties, and teaches parents how to help at home. General physical therapy, cupping, needling and scraping are also offered.
