Grief can often leave us feeling disillusioned, distraught, and alone in the world. Initially, others say “If there is anything you need, just let me know, okay?” We nod and say “Thank you, not knowing what we need.” After the first two weeks support from the community, friends, and family starts to diminish. The thought enters our mind “Have they forgotten…” It’s normal for us to feel angry and resentful because the world keeps going on like nothing happened when we are frozen in time.
Finding our footing is hard when every waking moment is filled with deep yearning and sorrow. We just want them back! The devastation of it all may lead to heart palpitations, shortness of breath, chest pains, digestive issues, lack of appetite, body heaviness, extreme fatigue, and lack of concentration is further impacted by insomnia. Others don’t understand how we cannot get out of bed, take a shower, and forget to brush our teeth.
I get it. EVERY. THING. is so HARD. I have had days like this too, and at times I still do, but, they have also changed. These times are more manageable.
I’m Stacy. I have experienced traumatic grief through the loss of my brother and my son. My background in mental health is in trauma therapy. After losing my brother in 2017, my grandma (more like my mom) in 2018, and my son in 2021, I became acutely familiar with grief. As part of my grief journey, I pursued a Compassionate Bereavement Care certification from Dr Joanne Cacciatore, and have found purpose specializing in traumatic grief and loss from a decolonized and non-pathological view.
I offer telehealth therapy throughout IN & FL for adults who have experienced traumatic grief and loss, trained in Compassionate Bereavement Care, EMDR, Brainspotting, Expressive Art Therapy, and Somatic Therapy. My philosophy and approach to working with traumatic grief is based on anti-colonization and anti-pathology. I believe symptoms of traumatic grief should not be pathologized, nor, should the practices individuals find transformative in their grief journey be based on colonized practices or approaches to post-traumatic growth.
