TimberNook is a nature-based therapeutic and developmental program designed to support children’s physical, emotional, and social well-being through unstructured outdoor play. Grounded in evidence-informed practices from occupational therapy, TimberNook provides a sensory-rich environment where children are encouraged to explore, take appropriate risks, and engage in meaningful, child-led experiences.
Sessions take place in a natural setting and may include activities such as fort building, mud play, tool use, obstacle navigation, and imaginative group play. These experiences are intentionally designed to promote:
Sensory processing and regulation
Motor planning, coordination, and strength
Executive functioning and problem-solving skills
Social interaction and peer relationship building
Confidence, independence, and resilience
TimberNook is especially beneficial for children who may struggle in traditional indoor or highly structured environments, including those with sensory processing challenges, attention difficulties, or social skill delays. The program offers a supportive, low-pressure setting where children can develop at their own pace while building connection—with both peers and the natural world.
Programs are facilitated by trained providers and can complement occupational therapy, behavioral health services, and other wellness supports.
