About this event
International Overdose Awareness Day is observed every year on August 31 as the world's largest annual campaign to end overdose, remember those who have died, and acknowledge the grief of families and friends left behind. Across the United States, communities mark the day with free events including candlelight vigils and memorial gatherings, naloxone (Narcan) training and distribution, resource fairs connecting people to treatment and recovery services, and educational forums that work to reduce the stigma around substance use and overdose. Events are hosted by public-health departments, recovery organizations, harm-reduction groups, hospitals, and local coalitions, and they welcome people in recovery, families who have lost loved ones, and anyone who wants to help. Participation is free and open to all. Find a local event or resources, or take part online, through the International Overdose Awareness Day website.
