About this event
On the second Sunday of December, the Worldwide Candle Lighting invites bereaved families to light candles at 7:00 p.m. local time in memory of children, siblings, and grandchildren who have died. Organized by The Compassionate Friends, the observance moves across the globe time zone by time zone, forming a continuous 24-hour wave of light and remembrance. It is among the largest mass candle-lightings in the world and is observed both privately at home and at local chapter ceremonies, memorial services, and community gatherings across the United States. Participation is free and open to anyone who is grieving; people light candles, say the names of those they've lost, share stories, and connect with others who understand their grief. Some local groups host in-person ceremonies while others encourage remembrance from home. Contact a nearby chapter to find a gathering.
