About this event
The Worldwide Candle Lighting is an annual grief-support observance held on the second Sunday of December, when bereaved families light candles at 7:00 p.m. in each time zone to remember children, siblings, and grandchildren who have died. As candles are lit around the globe hour by hour, they create a continuous 24-hour wave of light and remembrance. Organized by The Compassionate Friends, it is one of the largest mass candle-lightings in the world, observed both in private homes and at local chapter ceremonies, memorial services, and community gatherings across the United States. Participation is free and open to anyone who is grieving; families are invited to light a candle, share memories, and connect with others who understand their loss. Many local groups host in-person ceremonies, while others take part from home. Check with a nearby chapter for a gathering near you.
