About this event
The Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service transforms the federal MLK holiday into a day on, not a day off, honoring Dr. King's legacy through community action. Observed on the third Monday of January, it is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service. Across the country, volunteers tutor and mentor youth, sort and distribute food, assemble care kits, refurbish schools and community centers, support veterans and seniors, and take on neighborhood improvement projects. Participation is free and welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds. To get involved, find a local MLK Day project through AmeriCorps and its partners, or organize your own service activity around a community need. Check the project details for start time, location and what to bring. A meaningful way to begin the year by giving back.
