About this event
NAMIWalks Central Iowa gathers the Ames-area community at scenic Ada Hayden Heritage Park for a free walk supporting brain health and mental-health awareness. Running from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the event is a public demonstration of solidarity for people living with mental-health conditions and a way to change community perceptions while offering hope, inclusion, empowerment and compassion. Registration is free, and dollars raised help ensure that NAMI's programs, support groups, classes and presentations remain free services for those who need them. The lakeside park provides a beautiful, welcoming backdrop, and the non-competitive route is open to walkers of all ages and abilities. Expect community resource tables, friendly volunteers and an encouraging, stigma-busting atmosphere. Whether you walk for yourself, a family member, or a friend, you will be among people who understand. Register online ahead of the event or sign up in person on walk day.
