About this event
The Salem Out of the Darkness Community Walk unites the mid-valley community around suicide prevention and mental-health awareness. Organized by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the non-competitive walk offers a supportive space to remember those lost, honor those who struggle, and connect with others who understand. The morning includes an opening ceremony, activities of hope and healing, resource tables that link attendees to local mental-health services, and complimentary honor beads for every participant. Walking the route is optional, and the event is designed to be inclusive for all ages and abilities. Registration is free; fundraising is encouraged to support AFSP's research, education, and advocacy efforts, but it is not required to attend. Those who cannot make it in person can register as virtual participants. Families, friends, coworkers, and community members are all welcome to take part in this compassionate, community-centered event in Oregon's capital.
