About this event
The Trailing of the Sheep Festival celebrates the centuries-old tradition of moving sheep from summer mountain pastures down to winter range, a working migration turned into a rich cultural festival across the Wood River Valley. The centerpiece is the 'Big Sheep Parade,' when more than 1,000 sheep flow down Ketchum's Main Street, but the multi-day event also features sheepdog trials, a folk-life fair, Basque, Scottish and Peruvian music and dance, wool workshops, and lamb-focused food events. Many activities are free, including the famous parade, while some workshops and dinners are ticketed. It is a distinctive, deeply Idaho experience for all ages. Check the schedule for parade timing and dress for crisp mountain-fall weather.
